Sir Harry Smith Community College

Located in the town of Whittlesey, Sir Harry Smith Community College is a secondary school with 1,000 pupils in years 7-13. In December 2010 the College was allocated funding as part of the Cambridgeshire Business Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme, and rhp were appointed with Kier Eastern to deliver the project.

After a series of meetings with the College and County Council representatives, it was agreed to refurbish as much of the existing buildings as possible in order to maximise the size of the College whilst providing value for money.

we are all delighted with the finished product. The students feel that they have a school to be proud of and the parents and former students cannot believe the changes

Our architectural solution focuses on the front of the College, revitalising the main entrance, dining and social facilities. The landscape was also reconfigured to create a safer and more welcoming entrance by separating bus/coach drop-off from car parking areas, pedestrians and cyclists.

Extensive refurbishments deliver dedicated dining facilities, as well as two additional laboratories in the remodelled science department. A new extension connects to the refurbished hall, providing a performing arts/drama area. The enhanced learning unit operates in a new discreet two-storey block, utilising its own entrance and toilet facilities, garden and parking spaces.
