rhp have a strong reputation in successful Innovation Centre design. Our expertise has developed over three decades and several projects following our first Innovation Centre for St John’s College in Cambridge. Building on this experience we were asked by SEEDA (South East England Development Agency) and the University of Kent to design a landmark Innovation Centre at the gateway to the principal point of entry to the University campus and technology park.
Our design strategy focusses on flexibility and maximising opportunities for interaction - these are key features of Innovation Centres. Knowledge transfer often occurs through chance encounter and social spaces play an important role to enable this potential. Generous circulation, coffee areas, shared meeting rooms and cafés are therefore central to our approach to the building layout.
The Canterbury Innovation Centre offers 3,400m² of workspace, studios and offices to support innovation and enterprise developments. Our design achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status and provides an environment to encourage and foster entrepreneurial activity in the local community.
