Situated in the village of Chatteris, Cromwell Community College is both a secondary and sixth form site, serving the local community and surrounding areas. The County Council secured funding from the Cambridgeshire Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme in 2010. The £11m project aimed to transform the site, revitalising the existing buildings and developing around 3,400m² of new accommodation.
rhp were appointed as architects, designing a new sports hall and departments for design & technology, science and ICT. We converted the existing sports hall into a new dining room and kitchens. A sixth form centre now sits at mezzanine level. To improve visitors’ arrival, we have preserved the fine 1930s frontage and made a major intervention at the main entrance, improving facilities and enhancing the image of the school.
A new leisure centre and external sports facilities were also provided.
The project was constructed by Kier Eastern.
