Sportspark is based at the University of East Anglia, but its £17.6m facilities are open to the whole community.
By creating flexible indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, we were able to create amenities suitable for users of all ages and abilities, from beginners through to professional athletes, and give the centre the ability to adapt to differing usage requirements at different times. In the Olympic-sized pool, for example, a moving boom and a 17m x 25m moving floor can be put in place to provide two 25m pools, while removable rebound panels and nets enhance the flexibility of the 12-court sports hall. The centre’s other facilities include a 15m high climbing wall, martial arts and aerobics rooms, a fitness suite, and accommodation for coaching, physiotherapy and sports science.
Sportspark attracted a £14.6m Lottery Sports Fund grant – at the time the largest-ever grant for a community project. It has become one of the most successful community sporting facilities in the UK and was awarded ‘Best Sports Venue or Provider’ in the Primary Times Reader Star Awards 2015.
