Fitzwilliam College MCR

This Grade 2 listed building has had a fascinating history and is one of the oldest and most important buildings at Fitzwilliam College. A couple of years ago rhp was asked to provide improved facilities for the College’s graduate community. The new building, on the previous site of an old boiler house and external yard, provides a multi-purpose garden room, an external terrace, new toilets, a bar and general expansion and improvements to the MCR facilities.

The extension takes the form of a garden pavilion with the south-east and south-west extensively glazed to provide a visual link to the landscaped gardens to the south and west of the site. The new landscaped terrace and sliding door on the south-west elevation of the lounge/meeting/reception room allow the two spaces to operate together – effectively creating an outdoor room. Since completion the graduates have added a BBQ, dining tables and seating areas to help make optimum use of the space.

We received a Commendation in the 2021 CFCI Awards for this exciting project.
