Our masterplan for a mixed use scheme for the National Extension College in central Cambridge, considered a series of massing and use strategies for an overall site development appraisal. The College wished to enhance their existing accommodation whilst providing income from a joint investment, in collaboration with a development partner, on a short or long term basis.
Options for the site accommodation included contemporary student housing, live/work units and affordable housing working with a Registered Social Landlord or a 60/40 private/affordable development split. The proposals were reviewed and presented to key stakeholders and, following pre-application consultation with the local planning authority, an outline planning submission was prepared.
The final vision promotes a vibrant new, mixed use community comprising 300 residential units, office space, B1 educational, D1 and workshops and studios for the creative arts.
