New Road Primary extension gets planning permission

rhp has obtained planning permission for a major extension to New Road Primary School in Cambridgeshire.

The new accommodation will expand the existing school from its current 105 pupil capacity to a 420 pupil, two-form entry school.

Delivered through the regional schools’ framework in collaboration with Kier Construction Eastern, our design for Cambridgeshire County Council and the Aspire Academy Trust provides a welcoming school presence on the street frontage with new clearly defined and accessible entrances.

The school’s legible layout will enable straightforward wayfinding to the new teaching spaces which will benefit from generous natural daylight, ample and practical support hubs and good connections to external social and learning spaces. In addition to these teaching areas, the extension will also provide a new purpose-built nursery and increased outdoor play areas including an all-weather games court.

New Road Primary is one of a series of projects rhp is currently designing for Cambridgeshire County Council, including a new primary school and nursery in Cambridge and a major expansion of a secondary school to create an all-through school offering places from nursery through to sixth-form education.
